The Bourne Supremacy: Karl Urban's Tunic Shirt

Because evidently, the man wears tunics well.

The mascara was quite good - wand was very application-friendly, and defined and lengthened my lashes really well.

Today, I found myself a casual down winter coat with a fur-lined hood from Burlington Coat Factory for $69.99. It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for, since I don’t want to wear out my formal pea coat by wearing it everyday. Will post pics of that after I get myself all bundled up to go out again… but first! What is this little gold dress, you ask? Well, we didn’t set out to buy it… but it was there. My mom found it, and her instincts told her not to let it go. There was a bit of fraying, so we asked for an additional discount, and got an extra 20% off of the $29.99 it had been going for. Got home, tried it on… and I couldn’t believe how nice it looked! The photo is pretty poor, I know, but it looks great. I guess I know what I’m wearing to the next special event!

Won this shiny new duo of lip gloss and mascara from a Lucky Magazine sweepstakes! I didn’t even realize I’d won… they usually notify me via e-mail before mailing it out, but I’m definitely not complaining. There were probably 1000 winners for this, but I don’t care! Woo! :D Enter monthly here — or daily if you want, but prizes rotate monthly — to win a sweet variety of free stuff!! Seriously, enter. This is actually the FOURTH time I’ve won a free item from Lucky. To date, I’ve won a terrific batch of Vitamin C paper masks by myfaceworks, the BEST day lotion by Envision Beauty (but too pricey to resupply…), a full-size bottle Yves Rocher So Elixir Eau de Parfum, and a lip balm & face/body mist by Borba (which they never DID end up shipping to me, sadly… but that was the only one). The point is, I won. Good stuff. Four times. You can too. Anyway, onto the review. Both the lip gloss and the mascara featured here are by Avon, part of the superSHOCK collection. I’d never actually tried an Avon product before, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. As you’ve probably already noticed, these babies are about twice the size of your average lip gloss and mascara. Whether you actually get twice the lip gloss or mascara is doubtful - unfortunately I can neither confirm or deny this since I’ve already discarded the wrapping in my haste to sample the goodies. Anyway, I balked at first, but I have to confess that there is something glamorous about picking up an oversized tool and painting your face with it (not like this, but you know). It actually feels old Hollywood. Practically speaking, you probably won’t find yourself packing these into your clutch purse anytime soon… unless they’re the ONLY items you plan on packing. But they might well be - they’re actually great. Let’s start with the lip gloss. The Avon superSHOCK liquid lip shine I received was in a color called “Melon Madness,” and it’s absolutely gorgeous - an ultra-flattering coral shade flecked with gold shimmer - and the shimmer bit is actually wonderfully subtle, so that your lips look full and luscious, and not overly frosted like a teenager’s. The application wand is tightly contained, comes free with a little *pop*, and looks about as wide as a person’s lip, but easy to use… sort of like a giant crayon… but dear god, don’t use crayons on your face. <— /protip Anyway, you know I love my bargain drugstore brands, but this product is far more pigmented than any drugstore gloss I’ve tried to date. And it actually smells like melon! But not overwhelmingly so (please take note, Bath and Headache Works). As for the texture, I found it pleasantly smooth and rich - slightly “tacky,” but with lip gloss, that’s generally a good thing. I’ve yet to test the staying power, because I don’t want to go to class looking like Kim Kardashian. Easy mistake, I know. [-placeholder- will update with before/after pictures soon, and mascara review. It’s 2am. goodnight.]

This over a long sleeved shirt over a tank top = my chilly house (have you SEEN gas prices) is suddenly cozy. I am in love. Out of stock online but I snagged one in the Target store yesterday. <3 It is currently buttoned all the way up to my chinny chin chin.

Took a cue from My Mom, the Style Icon, and asked my lovely mother to strike a pose for the camera. She’s amassed a choice variety of pieces over the years, and I’m pretty sure her wardrobe is about thrice the size of mine. I have no idea what she’s wearing (will ask her later), but she sure looks cute!

Cosmetic wish list: a foundation that offers lightweight coverage while keeping your skin hydrated and protected through the harsh winter. Consumersearch.com shows that Tarte Smooth Operator Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 is one of the highest rated moisturizers on Sephora and Makeupalley.com.
Also on the wish list: a new facial lotion for daytime wear. I’m currently debating between Olay Regenerist UV Defense Regenerating lotion SPF 15 and Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream (known as a good body cream, but equally suitable for the face).

Black Friday, H&M style

I usually like to sleep in on Black Friday, but here’s an offer that might just tempt me to join the sale-hungry throng…

winter notes for self

After years of always complaining about/hating winter, it is time to attempt to enjoy it more. As Richard Adams pointed out, the only way to “enjoy” winter is to enjoy the feeling of protection from winter, thus, shopping list:

- fleece-lined tights

- more sweaters and/or long-sleeved things

- perhaps more blankets

- another space heater
